Sub-Surface Utility Engineering
Using the latest in geophysical prospecting techniques, International Consulting and Associates, LTD. (ICA) provides determination of existence and accurate horizontal location of all underground utility facilities, including wells and septic tank systems. The accuracy of the locating system is within 0.609m (2.0feet) tolerance.
ICA, in concert with its associates has completed over one thousand five hundred (1,500) safe small excavations (pot-holes) on utility facilities in the State of New Mexico. The use of a non-destructive water/vacuum system to excavate and window utilities, directly contributes to damage prevention of plant and natural habitat, and allows the client a three dimensional view of the subsurface utility, i.e., depth, diameter and direction.
Subsurface utility engineering (SUE) is an engineering process of accurate identification, characterize, and mapping underground utilities during the early stages of project development. With this in mind, ICA utilizes four
Quality Levels. SUE activities, when combined with traditional record research and site surveys, provide the most accurate information available. Typically, construction plans contain disclaimers as to the accuracy of utility information. The use of Quality Levels allows the client to certify on the plans that the highest level of accuracy and comprehensiveness has been provided.Quality Levels provide an overall feel for the congestion of utilities and include surveying visible, above-ground utility facilities, such as manholes, valve boxes and posts and correlating this information with existing utility records. It is not unusual to find that many underground utilities have been omitted or erroneously plotted. Sub-surface utility engineering eliminates these errors. Quality Levels are suited for rural and urban projects where utility facilities are not prevalent or too expensive to repair or relocate.
